looks like somebody's got a case of 'someone is wrong on the internet!!!!'privilege misc. thoughts scroll on past; nothing to see here this is a random misdirected rant that actually accomplishes nothing I just needed a place to think and writing my thoughts down helps me with that I'll probably delete this later

“Body weight is the last socially acceptable prejudice.”

Every time someone says this, all I can think is ‘is this a joke?’

It struck me hard when it popped up on my Facebook news feed this morning and, in my sleep-deprived state, I stared at it for about 10 minutes, trying to decide whether or not to call him out publicly.

a fiancée
and a quite nice apartment
I mean, trust me dude.
I know.
sometimes being fat is really hard and people suck.

Honestly, I have a hard enough time concisely calling myself on my own privilege and understanding what it means to be privileged and how that limits my worldview. I always feel like I fall really terribly short. On the flip side, I didn’t even realize what white privilege was until I saw the term on the internet and sat back, blinking like a fawn newly exposed to the sunlight because this was what it was like to be so, so wrong. I am white. I come from a white family that lives in a white trash trailer park in Whitey McWhitestown, comma, the South. I don’t want to say that my entire life has been shaped by white privilege, but it has, and I know for a fact that this lovely gentleman has a roughly similar, incredibly white experience.

I don’t really know why I’m writing this. I think I’m trying to discern whether or not I think it would be beneficial for me to gently educate him to the best of my ability (which admittedly is probably not much). I also don’t really know what to say.
